There are gold coins - American Eagle (not circulated) - $5, $10, $25 and $50. The $1 coins that you may see in circulation are: Presidental, Sacagawea, Susan B. Anthony and Ike Dollar. The Peace Dollar, Morgan Dollar, Trade Dollar, Liberty Seated Dollar, Draped Bust Dollar and Flowing Hair Dollar are all made from silver and probably will not be seen in circulation. All coins presently being minted and those minted in the past are legal tender and could be used today.
