Why werre the words "Washington, D.C." omitted from currency notes in the 1990's?

Starting with the 1990's series of five through hundred dollar Federal Reserve Notes, the legend "Washington, D.C.", which has been on just about every issue previously, was removed. Why?

  1. When they redesigned the notes to the new large image type, it may not have fit in. There was no law on having Washington D.C anyway. It is also kind of out of place to have Washington D.C and the note printed in Forth worth Texas. Note has FW on it. The one dollar bill has the Washington DC as well as the FW if printed at the Fort Worth plant which may confuse things. Things happen to move from on place to another when new concepts of coins or currency are made. We the collector or consumer are the last to know.
