It's part of Canada, even though there are many who would prefer it differently, and they use the Canadian Dollar, which is almost exactly the same as a US dollar these days. American card goes in, local money comes out - worldwide. The rate is usually much closer to the rate you see on the news that way (that's good) and you won't end up swapping for some Canadian Tire money (that's bad.) Although I do recommend tucking a little bit of cash away somewhere safe for emergencies.
