Contact your local bank severel weeks prior to your trip. Some charge a small fee for doing so but they should be able to convert foreign currancy. I do believe most places accept U.S. Dollars though.
As far as safety, if you're uncomfortable venturing out, stick close to your resort or hotel. Have your hotel concierge help you arrange trips to local visiting spots through transportation companies that they work with.

it doesn't matter because someone will steal it from you eventually. the best thing to do is by a belt with different compartments in it. you wear them under your clothes and keep you valuables in it. that way you can be sure your stuff is safe. have a great trip
