Currency math help!?

Two college students went on spring break to Guadalajara, Mexico. One took the vacation in 2002, while the other went in 2006. Each student had $500 to spend.
In 2002, the exchange rate of MXN/USD (Mexican pesos to U.S. dollars) was 9.
In 2006, the exchange rate was 11. A hotel room in Guadalajara cost 200 pesos per night in
2002, and 220 pesos in 2006.
If each spent five nights in a hotel, which student had more pesos left over? Exactly how many did that student have?

    The student in 2002 originally had 4,500 pesos. (500 x 9)
    The student in 2006 originally had 5,500 pesos. (500 x 11)

    The hotel cost 1,000 pesos in 2002 (200 x 5).
    The hotel cost 1,100 pesos in 2006 (220 x 5).

    The 2002 student had 3,500 pesos left (4,500 - 1,000)
    The 2006 student had 4,400 pesos left (5,500 - 1,100)

  2. In 2002.
    $500 = MXN 9(500)= 4,500. [ i suppose $1 = MXN 9, MXN/USD =9 means MXN 1 = 9 USD}
    For room 200(5) = 1000 spent. means 3500 remain.

    In 2006
    $500 = MXN11(500) =5,500.
    For room 220(5) = 1100spent so 4400 remain.
    Now I am sure you can answer the question yourself.
