August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
Why not. Just indicates that money is god.
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
Why change it?
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am

August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
Sure, but which god are you taking about?
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
Naturally. Money is the God most Americans Trust.
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
i don't see why its there in the first place, but oh well.
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
No. It should be phased out with the new bills.
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
NO
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
You're damned right it should.
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
Sure! It's part of history. Why would anyone want to remove it?
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
Yes, this country was built on Christianity.
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
NO!
Whatever happened to the separation of church and state?
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
yes. its a tradition.
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
not everyone trust god……And not everyone looks at the details on the american currency…..
They should remove it and remove the freemasons symbols too.
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
It wasn't there in the beginning but if it makes people happy that it says god on some paper , let it be. But we still must remember separation of church and state
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
Heck ya!!!! we have grown from the beginning of time as a country that trusted in god and based off of christian beliefs!
Have you noticed we have remained the strongest country in the world for years!!!!
if you have a problem with it then leave the country!
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
No because not all people believe in God
and
God should not be equated to money
and
The Constitution
But then again some people act
as though Money is their God
So Maybe
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
No, its unconstitutional
It wasnt added until the 50's anyway
Anyone who disagrees with me that it is unconstitutional should check brush up on "seperation of church and state" and article 11 of the treaty of tripoli
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
as a Christian, I think yes, as an American who knows the constitution says we are free to practice any religion, I know that having God in the pledge and on money, is forcing God on those who dont believe.
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
Not really. It's a violation of the "establishment clause" of the first amendment to the United States Constitution.
However, I'm not losing any sleep over it. There are bigger fish to fry for separation of church and state.
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
Yes. Why fix what isn't broken
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
No.
"Under God" Should be taken out of the Pledge of Allegiance as well!
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
Nope
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
i dont really care if were to be taken of there would be mass chaos. i dont care that i have to say the pledge of allegiance just as long as i dont have to be taught that stuff i dont care i beleive all religion and talk about god holds us as humans back like 99% of what we are capable of i dont need the big guy upstairs to tell me not to kill anyway back to your question idc let them. not denieing exsistance of a (god) because i cant see anyway of the first atam of beging made with out one. just dont beleive in a christan type god a god who controls everything

I'd like to see it gone - but I suspect the dollar will be gone before that happens.
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
Separation of church and state so no. This country was in fact based on freedom not just of but from religion, not christianity. To say this country was based on christianity would be calling it a theocracy which would be an insult to the founding fathers.
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
In the big scheme of the world, who cares? I think there are better battles to pursue.
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
Yes.
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
It doesn't matter to me one way or another. It means nothing to me…money is money…if Satan was pictured on our money I would still use it.
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
yes, it was the basis of our country. It was the befief of our founding fathers. It was forged into the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution. It is how our elected leaders responded for nearly 170 years.
Now over the last 60 years it has slowly been chipped away at.
And as it has been chipped away what has been the general trend of the country?
DOWN.
The misnomer "Separation of Church and State" is not written into the Constitution. It is not in the Bill of Rights, nor in anyother document originating the foundation of this Nation.
I say to you that if it goes then the damnation of our Country is nearly complete.
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
Of course! The majority rules. We are a country based on Judeo/Christian concepts. Majority are God believers. May God bless America!
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
OF COARSE!!!! HIS THE ONLY ONE WE CAN REALLY TRUST. I KNOW SOME PEOPLE WILL ARGUE WITH THAT AND THATS OKAY…BUT WHY CHANGE IT WHEN ITS BEEN ON THERE FOR HOW LONG????
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
It has become a lie for this country. We are Commanded not to lie… but as long as we as a nation do not put our trust in Him… why would it make any difference if the slogan is left on or taken off? (I ask rhetorically.)

Dillicious … I think you should brush up on your reading ….
A law passed by the 84th Congress (P.L. 84-140) and approved by the President on July 30, 1956, the President approved a Joint Resolution of the 84th Congress, declaring IN GOD WE TRUST the national motto of the United States. IN GOD WE TRUST was first used on paper money in 1957, when it appeared on the one-dollar silver certificate. The first paper currency bearing the motto entered circulation on October 1, 1957.
That said … this is not when we started using this motto ….
It was found that the Act of Congress dated January 18, 1837, prescribed the mottoes and devices that should be placed upon the coins of the United States. This meant that the mint could make no changes without the enactment of additional legislation by the Congress. In December 1863, the Director of the Mint submitted designs for new one-cent coin, two-cent coin, and three-cent coin to Secretary Chase for approval. He proposed that upon the designs either OUR COUNTRY; OUR GOD or GOD, OUR TRUST should appear as a motto on the coins. In a letter to the Mint Director on December 9, 1863, Secretary Chase stated:
I approve your mottoes, only suggesting that on that with the Washington obverse the motto should begin with the word OUR, so as to read OUR GOD AND OUR COUNTRY. And on that with the shield, it should be changed so as to read: IN GOD WE TRUST.
The Congress passed the Act of April 22, 1864. This legislation changed the composition of the one-cent coin and authorized the minting of the two-cent coin. The Mint Director was directed to develop the designs for these coins for final approval of the Secretary. IN GOD WE TRUST first appeared on the 1864 two-cent coin.
The motto represented what our country was founded on … and should be proudly displayed on our coinage …

Of course its our national motto.
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
Currency? WTF is that? I use plastic and make my payments via automatic withdrawal from my bank account.
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
If it can be replaced with "In Sparkle We Trust", then it can be taken off. Otherwise, wouldn't we need to use some generic, trustable, figure instead? Maybe we could say, "In Something We Trust" that way everyone can relate.
I also posted this answer in the Government section to see if it would get a different question.
August 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
nope, us atheists are offended. Better hand over all your current currency so I can take these matters into my own hands.
