    It’s basically worthless paper anyway.

  5. Sounds like a self-punishing crime to me.

  6. The spirit of the original law was to prevent someone from altering a bill or a coin to make it worth more than it should be. No one is going to care if you burn your money or stick a penny in an amusement park coin altering machine.

It IS illegal to burn, cut up, or deface US currency and then TRY TO PASS IT OFF as legal tender. That is a Federal Offense.

Yes, it is a federal offence. And i think it can be felony or misdemenor depending on the amount. But why on this crazy earth would you even want to. Hell, all the money here is going to oil exporting nations… There isnt much left to burn or deface, anyway.

Decider 1 is not correct. Someone recently had a hissy fit in front of a bank concerning the devision of a check that was cashed between a freshly seperated couple. The guy ripped up his portion in disgust ant threw it down. He was quickly caught and arrested and was found guilty and sent to federal prison. He never attempted to pass the ripped up peices as tender for debt or services, yet he is in the pokey as I type this.
