You need to be specific mate.
When Jesus was alive, that was not that long ago. Jeruselem and much the known world including Europe, Britain and Egypt were territories controlled by the Roman Empire. THey had their own currencies, denarii and sestarii and coins. So they did have their own currency.
Of-course people did also resort to barter trade, which is trade without a common currency, they just traded goods. I.e. You can trade 3 chickens for a cow, or 10 pairs of sandles for a 5 spears. Understand?

Well this is an interesting subject.
this was the time of the Roman Empire, for interesting reading Colleen Machulochs “First Man in Rome ” series is great. but you will also find a great deal about the every day trading in the new testament. from food purchases to money changing to taxes. to rich men and the poorest of the poor. from the smallest coin , “The Widdows Mite” to the Talent of Gold to salt.
Salary is derived from salt which was a much traded commodity in those days , Roman soldiers were paid in salt hence the word salary for our wages.
