Where can one go for currency exchange? Is there an option where I could possibly mail my money to them instea?

I just found a big wad of money I saved from my previous visit to Switzerland. I live in a small city and I am not exactly sure where I can go to convert my money.

Also, is there a possiblity that I don’t actually have to go anywhere but instead send this wad of money to whomever so they can exchange it for US dollars and mail me back with the converted sum?

  1. take it to the bank.

whatever you do do not send it to anyone. apart from being illegal to send money through the mail you have no guarantee that the person to whom you send it will be honest and could even say they didn't receive it or not give you a good rate of exchange.

edit: you could of course save it and make another visit to switzerland and could spend it there.

  2. Please don’t ever mail your money to anybody or to anyplace. Go to the bank where you have an account, and have them assist you. If your bank is a small local bank, it usually have an affiliate bank which conduct international businesses on behalf of your bank. Ask them to exchange your Swiss Francs into US dollars. When you surrender your money to anybody even in the bank, make sure to obtain a certified receipt, not just a hand written note from one of the bank tellers. If at all possible exchange into US dollars right then and there. But if the bank cannot do it immediately and have to send it to their affiliate bank to do the foreign currency exchange, the receipt you obtain from your bank for surrendering your Swiss Francs would be the proof that the bank owes you US dollars equivalent of Swiss Francs.

  3. Have you thought of trying your local bank or another in town ? Mailing money and expecting to get it back? You are not serious , I hope.
