English pounds, dollars or euros can be used easily. There are many banks and change offices to change to Egyptian pounds. The rate of exchange in Egypt is better than elsewhere. Bring your credit card too. There are ATM machines everywhere.

I would advise you to go to the bank and get L.E. (Egyptian pounds) before you leave Luxor .
On the cruiser it is best to have L.E. as you’ll continually need small denominations for tips (5 or 10 LE) and you need to buy drinks, including soft drink, bottled water and in between meals cups of coffee or tea.
While you are in Aswan you can go to the bank or an ATM before leaving so you will have money for the return trip.
Most cruisers don’t allow you to bring bottle or cans of unopened water and soft drink in board and although they can’t really enforce this they seldom have refrigerators in the cabins to dissuade you.
You will need a bit extra for the Egyptian theme party which is traditionally on the last night.
I’d advise you to hire your costume on board unless you can find use for a belly dancing or pharaonic costume when you get home.
There usually a photographer who takes loads of pics on the night and you can buy them before leaving the cruiser.
I would also advise you to keep your shopping for the bazaars, as the prices at on-board shops are usually very high.
Both Luxor and Aswan have amazing bazaars and with somethings the prices are cheaper than at Khan el Khalili in Cairo

I don’t know about on the ship itself, but in town you will need LE (Egyptian Pounds). Given the difference in costs in Egypt it’ll be best to have that even if the ship accepts other currencies, as you can use small denomination notes to avoid things being “rounded up” to the nearest € or $.
Change some money before you travel, and try to get as much as you can in small notes (25 and 50 Piastres, LE1, LE5 and LE10)
