hello, me and my friend made a $500 bet, and i had him write out”IOU $500 within a period of a week paid out to _________ no exceptions due by 1/4/08″ then he signed it. The problem is now he is claiming that the $500 where pesos when we clearly stated they where dollars, is there any websites that state that the $ sign shows the currency of the country in which we reside (for me the US also if it helps california) basically i am asking if there is a $ it is infered that it is going to be us dollars and not mex. pesos. Plz people, i was gonna remove like 100 dollars off of it, but now im taking it all. Plz put the sources you used, and make sure that they are 100% reliable (pref gov, or law) sites. plz i dont want to loose this, also this money was won in a bet. All help wis greatly appriciated
all i really need to know (the fact that it is a bet is irrelivant i guess considering it says IOU and dosent mention it) is if in america you need to list what currency it is being paid for so would i have to go us$500, because that is the only prob, he is trying to say it is pesos, i just need a legal document stating something about the dollar sign being infered as the us dollar in amerca, also i do not plan on taking this to court.

Apparently, this is happening in Japan, where the Yen is rising to sky-high levels against major currencies like the US Dollar and Euro, as the Nikkei falls to its 26-year low at 12500 or so.
