		<description>No they are not. No industrial country you've heard of has money backed by any precious metals. If you want that, BUY IT. 

You can purchase metals to hold yourself (which I personally do and recommend), on eBay, bulliondirect, APMEX, or your local coin store. Or use online accounts (which you'd never see, just have to trust it's there) such as goldmoney.com 

Also, if you're looking to diversify your money into a foreign currency, Euros are not the best idea, they are JUST AS centralized and manipulative as US dollars. </description>
