I'm traveling to Australia from America and I would like to have on hand the currency to which the deistination I am bound for, therefore, can I go to like a citizen;s bank or bank of america and exchange my american currency for Australian currency?

Yes, this is possible; however, call your bank and place an order. Sometimes (depending on the amount you want) it can take up to a week.

Yep, a bank or currency exchange should be able to help you out, especially with Australian dollars as they aren't particularly hard to find.
If you plan in advance and look around you may be able to get a good exchange rate. The currency exchange at the airport tends to have the worst rate of exchange!

You CAN do this, but it might be simpler to simply wait till you get to Australia, then use your debit card to take out the money that you will need. You (more than likely) will not actually be charged for changing your money that way. Your only 'extra' charges will be for using an ATM of a bank other than your own…but even charges like this vary from bank to bank.
