How do you think your lives would be changed if "In God We Trust" were removed from currency?
It didn't used to be on there, and the god-believing people of those times didn't seem bothered. Why not revert to the original format?
E Pluribus Unum ("out of many, one") was a much better and more fitting motto for this country, and doesn't discriminate against anybody.
Carlos, prayer was not and can never be removed from school. FORCED prayer was removed. Students still have every right to pray.
Wiki, yeah, it does. When you say in god "WE" trust…that doesn't include everybody. That motto does not represent me and several million other Americans.
Savage. Oh dear, you really don't understand economics, do you.
Millie, you only want the majority to decide because you're confident you're in the majority and will get your way. The point is it's unconstitutional. And the constitution should uphold separation of church and state, and protect the minority from the whims of the majority.
Angel, removing that motto from money is not tantamount to "kicking god out". It is a correction to uphold the constitutional ideals of this country. If the religious will feel the same way no matter what, then why insist that the money has that on there?
OKIM, you got the quote wrong. Money is not the root of all evil, it's the LOVE of money.
Love, Wow. Your thinking is so flawed I don't even know where to start. But you should know that the god motto came about not because of what people had "in their hearts" but because of Red Scare tactics and McCarthyism. They tried to equate a lack of belief in god with communism, and all the fear mongering brought about stuff like this.
E Pluribus Unum is the perfect motto…out of many people (from many countries, including this one) one people. It has nothing to do with attitudes. We all have our own opinions, but we are one people, the American people. We are not all Christian and not all theists. Mentioning god on currency is a violation of the separation of church and state. Can't you keep your own beliefs and still care about the constitution?
Cheruvim…um, you're in the majority and you think YOU'RE being discriminated against? You think it's okay to discriminate against non-theists, but not you? Talk about a persecution complex.

It's just money. It makes no difference if the motto was changed.

It would be one less reminder that I live in a culture that rejects my beliefs as "silly" or "evil," even though they are derived from sources much older than their beliefs.
May 25th, 2009 at 5:51 am
So long as its value didn't degrade (which it wouldn't) our lives wouldn't change.
May 25th, 2009 at 5:51 am
I don't believe that has anything to do with it really.
May 25th, 2009 at 5:51 am
In god we trust doesnt discriminate either. why are people so petty about a few words on a buck?
May 25th, 2009 at 5:51 am
Remember "Colombine" when prayer was removed from school.
May 25th, 2009 at 5:51 am
It really wouldn't affect a major change, just the knowledge that IJR's beliefs, and the beliefs of other Atheists, are just as important to government as the hordes of Christians who plague our country today.

I think that by removing 'In God we trust,' that we would be setting ourselves up for more misery. Do you see how bad the economy is right now? Do you know why it is so bad?
The reason why the economy is so horrible right now is because we have rejected God. Our society has focused on materialism, hedonism, and consumerism, and it has gotten us in serious trouble. We should begin sharing with others what we already have. We should help the poor and the homeless. And, if anything, we should trust God even MORE- not less!
I praise the God of heaven, the creator of Heaven and Earth. Sacred is his name!

Very minimal if any change.
May 25th, 2009 at 5:51 am
E pluribus unim is still on it, nothing has changed its been there since the civil war and no ones died from it
are you really going to fight a battel over currency?
May 25th, 2009 at 5:51 am
I just think that, whatever happens, either leave it or remove it, it should ONLY be decided on elections and the "majority" should have the last word….
May 25th, 2009 at 5:51 am
Well its a lie anyway, your country doesn't believe in God for the most part. For those who do believe in God it will not change their feelings toward God. However, any nation that has been so blessed as yours by God and then starts kicking God out of every thing in their life will reap the consequences. I can see the USA becoming so ungodly that it will fall into ruin.
May 25th, 2009 at 5:51 am
In God we trust that money is the root of evil. It is very appropriate to have these few words on the currency.
May 25th, 2009 at 5:51 am
Not much. I'm sure there will be some stupid people that would be outraged and burn the money in protest, then be left broke with no money, but for the most part people will still use money out of necessity.
The 10 pound british note has darwin on it. Creationists in britain aren't going to avoid it like the plague.

Our lives would not be changed. Money is only money, but it would be one more reminder that my God is less valued in this American culture than It was in previous American cultures, and so I and the countless thousands of Americans who do believe in God would definitely be facing one more discrimination than we already face and have to live with every day. Why do you want such discrimination for so many countless thousands of people? Not a good plan.
May 25th, 2009 at 5:51 am
Jesus would come back and fry all the sinners with his laser beam eyes.
May 25th, 2009 at 5:51 am
I do think it should be changed, unlike Millie i don't think it should be up to Majority vote. It should be brought to the supreme court and ruling be made if it is unconstitutional.
and a quick question to cheruvima, How are you being discriminated against?
May 25th, 2009 at 5:51 am
Nothing would change except that it might cost a little less to mint coins and print bills.
I've always thought that the words "In God We Trust" imprinted on our money tells the world what American culture really worships–the almighty dollar.
May 25th, 2009 at 5:51 am
On the other hand, how do you think your life would be changed if it weren't on there?
Seriously, I don't think I'd notice unless someone specifically pointed it out to me…and then it would make kinda wistful.
I honestly don't get it…why does it bother some folks so very much?
May 25th, 2009 at 5:51 am
Just stop. God has done nothing to any of us. We trust in God even if the money did not say so. Some men of God just decided to put it in print. The America's ate it up. "In God we trust" It may become removed from currency but it is still in the hearts of men. Even if you cut their hearts out. You cannot kill their spirits and they who do will answer for their loss of life.
The God believing people of that time was bothered that is why it came about. They trusted God. What you are saying does not make sense. The original format was a promissory note written on paper. Signed with their hand to acknowledge a dept or payment.
The word of God does not discriminate against anyone . God said who so ever. That means anyone. "Let him come"
May 25th, 2009 at 5:51 am
Yes it means there are many Gods and we all know there is only one God. and money should honor our God.
