  1. They used the Pound.

The pound sterling of the United Kingdom was originally the value of one Troy pound of sterling silver, hence the name: Pound Sterling.

Some sources say it dates back to Anglo-Saxon times, when coins called sterlings were minted from silver.

The pound sterling is the world's oldest currency still in use.

  2. Pounds, pence shillings, just like today. The pound coin came into existence in 1489.
