Because they are the most used currencies in the world and hence everybody marks their currencies to them.
Incidentally Japanese Yen is used much more widely than the Swiss Franc.

Well, since the UK is such a wealthy and powerful nation, the Pound will and always has been influential, especially because it is so strong. The Dollar, although not as strong as the Euro or the Pound is the major money-transfer of the American economy, which is vital to our global economy for the time being. The Euro is used for so many countries in Europe that it is almost vital that is survives in order for the 13 or so European countries that have adopted this. The SwiterFranc, I don't believe is very important, but that is just me and I don't know how to inculde htat.
