British pounds aka pound sterling. The exchange rate is approx. US$1.80 = 1 pound. Some of the airport shops will accept US dollars (but give you change in pounds). You can also pay by credit card ;the stores charge in pounds, but the cc companies do the currency conversion for you and you still pay your bill in US$. In London, it's very easy to find places that will change your USD to pounds.

British Pound Sterling is the currency for the whole UK.

As to the exchange rate, it depends on what currency you want to change in the first place. Go to www.xe.com and find your currency, then convert it into GBP (Great British Pounds).

That will give you your exchange rate.
