How much would 250K pounds in 1795 equate to today's rate?
I am reading a novel, and the father, upon his death, gave his daughter 250,000 pounds a year as an allowance, and this was in 1795. 250K TODAY is a huge amount, at least for the middle class.

The countries say they don't want to return to protection but money printing and debasing the currency is just another way you make your exports more competative relative to others in another currency, thereby making theirs more uncompetative. This will become an arms race to the bottom as all countries race to debase.

Does it give us leverage over other countries, and allow us to assume a bunch of debt which they have to finance. If they don't give us debt the dollar will collapse and they will be screwed because they have a ton of our money in their national reserves?
