For example, I am in Australia. I have $10 Singapore dollar and wish to exchange it to AUD. On the board, there is a list of currencies in rows with two categories in columns. Buy and sell. Which category should I be looking at? Buy or sell?

In this example you would look at the sell column. You would use the buy column if you were in Australia and want to use AUD to buy another currency.
