Where in the world is there a society that uses the people’s currency, rather than the currency of the banks?

Please elaborate.

  1. The only people I can think of are the so-called "uncontacted people" or lost tribes. Groups of indigenous people that live traditional, stone-age type lives. Surprisingly there’s quite a few of them left, check out wiki:

There are also a number of other tribes & villages that have been contacted but still have very little to do with modern society and they still don’t use any type of monetary currency.

There’s also a few hippy communes around the place that use barter, but although they can minimize their use of money, they can’t completely eliminate it if they live in a modern society.
