I don’t think it’s a good idea to wash currency. But instead you could put a sprinkle of baking soda in between your stack of currency. Or, go spend it quick to get a better smell.

If you are talking about paper currency, put it in the washing machine and wash it. When I forget to check my pockets I usually find some money in the washer when emptying it. I put the money by my heat vent to dry. and I have clean money.
If it’s coins, put them in your sink and fill with hot water and a bit of dish soap. Leave soak for a while then stir the coins up with your hands to get them clean. Then place on a towel and rub them dry.
Water should not hurt the currency if it is real. Paper currency is actually made from a type of cloth and the coins are different types of metal.
