I expect the person was actually located in the UK and stated that the item was located in China. If you are selling on Ebay US then you need to sell in American dollars, why would you want to sell using another currency, that would just confuse everyone.
I live in Ireland but sometimes list items on the UK site and the listing is in pounds Stirling whereas my currency here in Ireland is Euros.
