Can someone explain to me why a weak currency leads to exports. If the exchange rate is $1 for 5 yuan, why does it matter where I buy my product from? If a soda costs $1 here, and 5 yuan in China, it’s still really costing me the same amount of money, is it not? $1 or 5 yuan is equal to one soda. Why would it be cheaper for me to buy a soda in China rather than here. (I understand that labor is cheaper in China, so their products are cheaper, but I’m strictly talking about the argument that a weak currency makes it cheaper to export.)
